Plastic: an evil that is killing us!
Plastic is a versatile material that is a chap and durable and is easily available. This is why the material is used for various purposes and it has replaced material because it is quite lightweight too. But are these features enough to make plastic one of the most vital materials that can be replaced with any other material? Perhaps no, because it is not easily decomposed and has oodles of toxins that can act as a slow poison to the living beings. One of the most dangerous environmental hazards that are damaging the environment is plastic bottle pollution.
Every day, we use many plastic bottles for water and other beverages. These plastic bottles are made of unsafe toxins and chemicals, which is harmful even when you are using it for the first time. We tend to buy small bottles and throw them away as plastic litter. This plastic garbage is rarely recycled, and end up as landfills, making the land barren. Often, this plastic litter mixes up with underground water, making the water poisonous. Even if the bottles are reused, it won’t stop the toxins and chemicals of the plastic to act as a slow poison.
The microwavable containers that are marked with ‘microwave & dishwasher safe’ apparently look safe but are equally harmful to normal plastic containers. When you warm the container, the toxins release and get mixed up with the food that you have cooked in the microwave. Plastic cutlery appears sturdy yet lightweight, and we often ask for those disposable cutleries for hygiene purposes. But plastic cutleries are more dangerous than those unwashed glasses or stainless steel dishes that you thought ‘unhygienic’.
If you are currently concerned about the plastic water bottle pollution, think of plastic straws and how much harm it would do to the environment? Well, plastic is a menace that one has to stop or it would end our lives on earth. Let’s pledge to take some green steps and ban plastics early.
